Dhaan Daan at Mumbai
“Dabbawala” is a person daily transporting working class Mumbaikars’ personal lunch box from their far-flung homes to the respective work-place and back. Due to Mumbai’s unique geography, it is difficult for a person to carry lunchbox while leaving for work, one, because of long distance travel that requires them to leave home in early hours and secondly, due to the over packed public transport (local trains and buses). An army of about 5000 Dabbawalas support the working class to enjoy of one’s own home cooked food, such that their personal lunch boxes change six hands seamlessly, before reaching the final destination. It has been claimed that the efficiency of their supply chain achieves a “six sigma” performance rating (i.e. 99.99% of delivery are made without error).
Food Grains and Kitchen Supplies
Covid-19 shut office across Mumbai and so also the daily earnings of these Dabbawalas, forcing them into distress and sufferings.
Distribution done in areas like Vikhroli, Mulund, Thane, Kalwa Diva, Kanjurmarg, Pawai, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Andheri, malad, Airoli, Kopar khairne, Vashi, Sanpada, Kamothe, etc.
Sant Bhagwant Sahebji felt the pain of these Dabbawalas.
Aided by generosity from Pujya Rameshbhai Kansara and family of UK, on 7th June (Yogiji Maharaj’s birthday) Anoopam Mission volunteers distributed 8 tons of food grains and kitchen supplies to hundreds of Dabbawala families.
Additionally, financial aid is being offered by Anoopam Mission towards their children education; a second lot of food grains too is getting packed for further distribution.
